Financial Abuse of the Elderly
Thursday, January 17th, 10:00 a.m. CST
Presenter: Dr. Robert W. Parker, M.D.
Chief of Community Geriatrics at UTHSCA
Although financial exploitation does not leave physical scars, it is a serious and shameful crime. The elderly are frequent victims of financial abuse because they are often seen as easy targets because they can be socially isolated, lonely, and tend to be more trusting. Sometimes the abuse is easily executed because of physical issues such as hearing impairments, memory loss or dementia. Dr. Parker will examine ways to help loved ones avoid elder financial abuse as well as share a personal story of his family’s experience with elder fraud.
